BAGGAGE
THE IMPORTANCE OF FORGIVENESS

As we begin the new year, we seek to make some New Year’s resolutions to change our lives.  We may be starting new habits, trying to get into shape or letting go of the past.  In order for us to move forward, we need to look back and let go of the baggage that weighs us down.  What do we need to let go of and who do we need to forgive?  Forgiveness is the most powerful way to encounter peace, light and freedom!!

BAGGAGE MESSAGE TRAILER

WEEK #1 – INTRO & “THE NEED FOR FORGIVENESS”

Fr. John introduces the message series as we begin 2020 reflecting on New Year’s resolutions!!  The new year brings an opportunity for change, renewal and new directions!!  How can we move forward while also carrying the baggage of our past?  Forgiveness becomes the key for us.  We need to seek, offer and experience forgiveness to truly be free.  We all have made mistakes, have been hurt and hold grudges.  These things weigh us down and can prevent us from being who we are supposed to be and miss out on the graces and blessings that God wants to offer.  We need to let go of this baggage — but how??

WEEK #2 – “FORGIVEN PEOPLE FORGIVE PEOPLE”

Fr. John continues this message series by talking about the need to encounter Jesus and experience His forgiveness.  We need to acknowledge the fact that we need forgiveness but also take the opportunity through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, praying with the Scriptures, going to Mass and even joining the Prayer Line.  When we experience Christ’s forgiveness which leads to freedom, we can then consider forgiving others.

WEEK #3 – THE GIFT OF THE CROSS & OUR FORGIVENESS

Fr. John reflects on the gift of the cross in our lives.  Jesus died on the cross and paid the price for our sins.  Have we really taken the time to stop and reflect on a crucifix and the meaning of Jesus’ sacrifice?  In order to for us to forgive and let go of the baggage in our lives, we need to experience the depth of Christ’s love on the cross.  The pain and suffering Jesus endured for our salvation frees us so that we too can offer ourselves for others to bring them peace and forgiveness!!

WEEK #4 – THE CHALLENGE TO TAKE SMALL STEPS

Fr. John invites everyone to finally take a look and see what large or small steps each of us can take to seek forgiveness.  St. Francis de Sales reminds us that God walks at our pace—like a loving father, he takes our hand and walks with us as we set the tone and speed.  God is gentle and loving and offers us so many opportunities!!!  Let’s try some and see what peace and joy we can receive and then share with those around us!!
